FILM FESTIVAL 2019

The selection of films for participation in the festival was carried out through an international film festival platform; selection starts March 01, selection ends July 31, 2019.

The fourth Rivne International Film Festival Dream City took place on October 20 - 23 and collected films from different countries in the following categories:

  • national program: feature films;
  • national program: feature documentaries;
  • national program: short feature films;
  • international program: short documentaries;
  • international program: short animated films;
  • international program: short feature films.

The selection of films for participation in the festival was carried out through an international film festival platform; selection starts March 01, selection ends July 31, 2019.

In total, about 500 applications from 50 countries of the world have been submitted to the 4th Rivne International Film Festival, and 50 films from 18 countries have been selected for the competition program. The selection was made by a committee consisting of: Viktor Bulyha, film director, member of the Ukrainian Film Academy, Oksana and Maryna Artemenko, film actresses, directors, founders of Letter To Fest.

The opening of the film festival took place on October 20 in the Cinema Palace "Ukraine", closing on October 23 in the Rivne Regional Museum of Local Lore, shows of the competition program: October 20, 21 and 22 in the Cinema Palace "Ukraine" and Rivne Regional Museum of Local Lore.

The accompanying events of the festival and the non-competitive screenings of the films, which were carried out with the aim of promoting national films, began on September 24.

Dream Community Contest

In partnership with the Rivne Center for Local Self-Government Development, as part of the non-competition program of the film festival, a film contest "Dream Community" was held in September among the united communities of Rivne region. 63 multi-genre videos from 10 communities and two TV channels were submitted for the competition. By the decision of the jury, seven ribbons were included in the final nomination.

On September 24, at the conference hall of the Rivne Center for Local Self-Government Development there was an out-of-competition screening of national films and a competition screening of films within the program "Dream Community";

Participants of the competition presented to the public documentaries and reports about their communities. Representatives of the organizing committee of the "City of Dreams" film festival were selected to determine the winners.

In particular, in the nomination "Today's United Communities" the following awards were given: the film "Community Streets" (by Olena Sunichuk, Demidovskaya OTG) and "Klesivska OTG: Reform in Action" (by Natalia Demedyuk, TRT "Rhythm").

In the nomination "Community through the eyes of the youth" the award also received two works: "Discover Radivyliv" (author - team "Radodrive" of Radivilov school-gymnasium №1, Radivilovskaya OG) and the tape "City of today - Varash" (author - Bogdan Khlibovich, pupil of secondary school # 5, chairman of the regional council of high school students "Impulse", Varashka OTG).

The "Community Presentation" category received the "Privolnensky OTG Presentation" award (a ribbon created with the support of the U-LEAD National Program "Decentralization" of the Uralskaya OGV).

In the nomination "History and traditions of my land" was awarded the film "Linden" (authors Nadiya Yatsyuk and Mykola Velichkovsky, Mirogoshchansky OTG).

Awards, diplomas and prizes were presented to the winners at the opening ceremony of the film festival, October 20.

Cinema at the Museum and in the Ostroh Academy

On September 26, there were screenings of films of the national program at the Rivne Regional Museum of Local History and the Ostroh Academy National University.

In particular, the film "Joseph Patsula. Chosen from a Thousand" was screened at the Rivne Regional Museum of Local History. The author of the idea is the daughter of Joseph Patsuly, Olga Nesterchuk.

Script writer and director Andriy Smus said before the screening that the film consists of two parts, each of which reveals a separate period of life and work of Joseph Patsuly. The first part tells about the history of the Patsule family, the young scientist's life, the life of his Ukrainian family in Lipa, Przemysl, and the forced relocation to the Soviet Union.

The second part deals with the life and scientific activity of Joseph Patsuly in Volyn and in Rivne, active public activity in the beginning of the restoration of Ukrainian independence in the 1990s, research and search work on establishing the names and biographical information of the repressed Rivne intelligentsia.

Yosyp Patsuly's son, Yuri, noted that the film reveals those pages of his father's activity that cannot be found anywhere. Olga Nesterchuk said that the film crew worked in Rivne and in Poland - in the city of Przemysl and the surrounding area. The creative group visited the native village of Patzulas - Lipa, from which they were evicted in 1947.

The film was presented in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the deportation of Ukrainians from Poland and the accompanying events of the program of the 4th Rivne International Film Festival Dream City.

During the events at the Ostroh Academy, Director of the City of Dreams Foundation Viktor Buliga told the audience about the history of the festival, its achievements, projects, events and participants. 

The film critic and screenwriter Vyacheslav Barash spoke to the audience about the film school in Rivne.

The audience watched the films of the two competition programs of the film festival - international and national.

The films of the film festival were also shown at the Ostroh Academy's Cultural and Art Center for the Lyceum of the Regional Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training. K. Ostrozky. The audience was shown a documentary of the national competition program "Brothers in Arms" by Sergey Lysenko. After watching it, the film received particularly good reviews as it was thematic for lyceum students studying military affairs and preparing to become defenders of Ukraine.
